Tell us about STS DSW.

We advise clients, including UK-resident non-domiciles, on matters such as inheritance tax, trusts and offshore structures, as well as assisting offshore banks and trust companies throughout Europe with UK tax issues. Our full range of tax services includes assistance with tax investigations and compliance.

What does joining DSW mean for STS DSW?

We’ve now become part of DSW Tax Advisory. Based out of our office in Burscough, Lancashire, we’ll operate as STS DSW for the foreseeable future. The synergies with DSW are immense. Our acquisition has enabled the retirement of STS Europe’s owner, Andy Sharp, who joined the business at the start in 1991.

What was the attraction of joining the DSW network?

We have built a strong reputation for our work with high-net-worth clients and offshore trusts, and our acquisition by DSW brings additional expertise. We’ll be able to expand our range of services, plus being part of the DSW brand and network will attract new clients.

The added attraction is DSW’s comprehensive support infrastructure. It includes funding support, compliance, marketing and public relations, IT, mentorship and administration support. This will free up more time for us to concentrate on developing the business, working with like-minded individuals and opening new doors.

How was the acquisition process?

Our acquisition by DSW is the first deal I’ve been involved with, and it’s provided me with many insights. Working with Nicole Burstow (DSW’s Deputy CEO) and Pete Fendall (DSW’s Business Development & Operations Director) during the process was a rewarding experience. It was a smooth transaction, and we’ve been impressed by the professionalism we’ve experienced at every level.

What are you most looking forward to?

I like the approach of Dave Waddington, who heads up DSW Tax Advisory. We’re very like-minded with our client focus, and I relish having the opportunity to bounce ideas off my new colleagues in the network.

Tax advisory is a key expansion area for DSW, and growing our team to complement the existing services in the network is a priority. The opportunity for my personal development is something I’m looking forward to, and it was a part of the attraction to join the DSW network. I’m already signed up for the DSW Leadership programme, which is an exciting opportunity for me personally.
